Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)

A Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) is a non-invasive diagnostic evaluation used to measure how well your lungs work. The tests assess lung volume, capacity, rates of flow, and gas exchange. This information helps your pulmonologist diagnose conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung fibrosis, and other respiratory disorders. It is also used to monitor the effectiveness of treatments or assess lung health before major surgeries.

Your Care Journey

We believe in complete transparency. Here is what you can expect at every step of your procedural journey with our specialized medical team.

Preparation

Patients are advised to avoid heavy meals, smoking, and strenuous exercise for a few hours prior. Bronchodilator inhalers may need to be withheld temporarily as advised by the doctor.

During Test

The patient breathes into a mouthpiece connected to a spirometer. A clip is placed on the nose to close the nostrils. The technician will guide you through different breathing patterns, such as breathing in deeply and blowing out forcefully.

After Test

No recovery time is needed. The pulmonologist will interpret the data (such as FEV1 and FVC values) to assess lung function and plan appropriate management.

Recovery Timeline

A clear, clinical timeline to help you prepare for a safe and comfortable journey back to health.

Immediate

Test completed, no post-procedure restrictions.

Same Day
