Laparoscopic Hernia Repair

Before undergoing laparoscopic hernia repair, patients are evaluated through physical examination and imaging tests such as ultrasound or CT scan to confirm the type and severity of the hernia. Carbon dioxide gas is used to inflate the abdomen, providing a clear view of the surgical area. The hernia is identified, and the protruding tissue is pushed back into place. A mesh is then placed over the weakened area to strengthen the abdominal wall. The incisions are closed with sutures or surgical glue. The procedure typically takes between 45 and 120 minutes, depending on complexity.

After surgery, patients are monitored until the effects of anesthesia wear off. Most patients can go home the same day or within 24 hours. Pain is usually mild and manageable with medication. Patients are encouraged to start walking soon after surgery to promote healing. Light activities can be resumed within a few days, while heavy lifting should be avoided for a few weeks. Follow-up visits ensure proper healing and prevent recurrence.
