Heart Valve Surgery

Heart valve surgery is a specialized cardiac procedure performed to repair or replace one or more of the heart’s valves when they are not functioning properly. The heart has four valves—the aortic, mitral, tricuspid, and pulmonary valves—that regulate blood flow through the heart chambers. When these valves become narrowed (stenosis) or fail to close properly (regurgitation), it disrupts normal blood circulation and forces the heart to work harder. Heart valve surgery restores proper blood flow by either repairing the damaged valve or replacing it with a mechanical or biological valve. In recent years, minimally invasive techniques such as transcatheter valve procedures have also gained popularity, offering faster recovery and reduced surgical trauma. This surgery significantly improves symptoms such as fatigue, breathlessness, and chest discomfort, while also preventing complications like heart failure.
