Epilepsy Surgery

Epilepsy surgery is a specialized neurosurgical procedure performed to treat drug-resistant epilepsy, where seizures continue despite appropriate anti-epileptic medications. The goal of surgery is to remove or disconnect the area of the brain responsible for triggering seizures while preserving important brain functions such as speech, memory, and movement. Depending on the patient's condition, epilepsy surgery may include resective surgery, laser ablation, corpus callosotomy, hemispherectomy, or neuromodulation procedures. The type of surgery is determined after a detailed evaluation by a multidisciplinary epilepsy team. For carefully selected patients, epilepsy surgery can significantly reduce seizure frequency, improve quality of life, and, in many cases, achieve long-term seizure control.
