Before Surgery

Before undergoing a cardiac MRI scan, patients are screened for any contraindications such as metal implants, pacemakers, or devices. Doctors review the patient’s medical history, including kidney function and allergies, especially if contrast dye (gadolinium) is to be used.

Day of Surgery

The patient lies on a motorized table that slides into the MRI machine. Electrodes may be placed on the chest to monitor heart activity. If required, a contrast agent is injected. The MRI machine uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to capture detailed images of the heart.

Post Surgery

After the cardiac MRI scan, patients can resume their normal activities immediately, as there is no recovery time required. If contrast dye was used, patients are advised to drink fluids to help eliminate it from their bodies. The images obtained are analyzed by a specialist.
