Upper GI Endoscopy

Upper GI Endoscopy, also called Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy or Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine the food pipe (oesophagus), stomach, and first part of the small intestine (duodenum). During the procedure, a thin, flexible tube with a small camera called an endoscope is gently passed through the mouth. The camera provides clear images of the digestive tract, helping the gastroenterologist identify abnormalities such as gastritis, stomach ulcers, acid reflux-related damage, bleeding, inflammation, polyps, and certain tumors. If required, the doctor can take a small biopsy or perform treatments such as controlling bleeding or removing selected polyps during the same procedure.
